Biography

Ronald R. Smith, a graduate of Thompson High School is a 1963 graduate from Heidelberg College, Tiffin, Ohio. After graduation, he volunteered for the U.S. Army Intelligence Corps and served three years as a “Special Agent” involved in counterintelligence investigations. Following his service in Army Intelligence, Smith became a private investigator in Cleveland, Ohio, primarily involved in industrial espionage and insurance fraud investigations. Smith was then employed with two nationally recognized insurance companies as a Claims Supervisor. While employed as a multiline Claims Supervisor, Smith attended Cleveland State University, John Marshall College of Law. He graduated in December, 1973 with a Juris Doctorate Degree and passed the Ohio and Florida Bar exams. Smith began his law practice in Huron, Ohio, and during that time he was hired as an Assistant Erie County Prosecutor in 1975. During his 22 year tenure as a felony trial prosecutor, Smith tried over 100 jury trials and argued cases before the Ohio Supreme Court *. In 1991, Smith was acknowledged for his hard work and dedication by being recognized as the Outstanding Assistant Prosecutor of the Year in the State of Ohio by the Ohio Prosecuting Attorneys Association. Smith retired from the Erie County Prosecutor’s Office in June, 1997.

Utilizing his trial experience and background, Smith now represents clients in the civil arena through his private practice in Bellevue which was established in 1980.

Smith specializes primarily in claims against insurance companies concerning casualty losses. His background as an insurance fraud investigator and multiline casualty claim supervisor for two nationally recognized insurance companies gives Smith a wealth of experience. Although he attempts to settle matters without court action, Smith will aggressively pursue a fair result for his client, even if trial is necessary.

Family Law consists of divorces, custody disputes and paternity actions. Smith has tried many cases in this area of law. He has a good working relationship with professional licensed counselors throughout the community who are able to assist the children and adults getting through these emotional legal problems. Smith takes time to listen and answer any questions a client may have at any time. His philosophy is: always have a direct straight forward attitude in order to resolve the legal conflict.

In a small community, it is necessary to resolve unique legal problems whether it be contractual issues, probate and will problems, or court citations. Smith administers the estate of a loved one with thoroughness and compassion. On contractual disputes involving real property or services, he is always prepared and has plenty of ammunition to deal with the opposition.

Because of Smith’s trial experience and background, he is comfortable in the courtroom setting and tries to have his client feel the same way.
